A GREAT STORY

The Earth and Life

The Oasis of the Butterflies

The Oasis of the Butterflies form a network throughout the national territory promoted by the Spanish Association for the Protection of Butterflies and their Environment (ZERYNTHIA) to create favorable spaces for butterflies and other pollinators. To this end, these Oases promote the use of native plant species that allow butterflies to feed on both their leaves – during the caterpillar phase – and the nectar of their flowers – when they are adults.

The environment of Aras de los Olmos has a markedly Mediterranean climate. This means that in the Oasis of the municipality we find butterflies of great interest such as the butterfly of the scarecrow (lo.lana debilitata) and others of great showiness and size such as the great turkey (Saturnia pyri) or the Elizabethan (Actias isabelae).
